Religion as world outlook value

At the present stage of development of the Ukrainian society there is a task of consolidation of the nation with the purpose of realization of political, economic and social reforms before progressive political forces of the country. This process is impossible without revival and formation of spirituality of the nation, national consciousness and self-consciousness. Formation of people of Ukraine as a socium, inclusion of the state in generally civilized process is the task of stimulating national revival, updating in all its aspects, consolidation of the Ukrainian nation. The solution of these problems will enable to overcome alienation of people as representatives of different ethnoses to avoid interethnic skirmishes and conflicts as the national consent can be achieved only by strong and concrete guarantees of national balance on the basis of realization of the right of citizens on the certain cultural and historical potential of the nation, use of experience of its good neighborhood with other peoples.

Nowadays, if the human consciousness becomes more global, the need for mutual understanding and dialogue grows. Dialogue on a global basis is not simply opportunity, but also necessity. The requirement of interreligious, interideological and intercultural dialogue which is united with the fact of interdependence of mankind nowadays grows, you see any part of human race may push the whole planet in social, economic, nuclear, ecological or other accident.

Undoubtedly, there is a constant necessity to concentrate energy of these dialogues not only on how people perceive the world and understand its value, but also on how they should operate with each other, how to treat other people and nature in the context of sources of reality which are distributed, surround and accrue.

In studying outlook of all without exception peoples of Ukraine the problem of a parity of pagan national culture with those religions affirmed in consciousness of peoples eventually is of great importance. In particular, it concerns Christianity and Islam.

Available sources allow to state that the outlook of any people was multilayered, it united in itself both value of official religions, and pagan ideas, mystic-magic symbols and rituals. And the religion is known to have played a determining role in formation of the certain spiritual-world outlook and behavioral stereotype at that time .

Religiousness in Ukraine was always closely connected to the national character, sense of national consciousness as for centuries the culture of each people felt religious influence. So, the Ukrainian scientist and philosopher Vladimir Shajan in his fundamental work “Faith of our ancestors” pointed out that religion of a certain people is his own evidence about himself; to learn his faith is to learn his character [1, p 12].

It was under influence of religion as a certain outlook that each people created his own customs and ceremonies, the way of life giving him originality and distinguishing from other peoples. It were customs and ceremonies that made up the original “philosophy” of the people’s life, the basic matter of his collective creativity. So, customs of peoples which live in Ukraine have much in common and at the same time differ essentially.

The culture of the majority of peoples of our state leaves the roots in Christianity which within centuries addressed a person, expressed universal ideals, criteria, norms, that is why it can be named as fruitful cultural tradition.

However, Christian traditions of Ukrainians, Russians, Byelorussians, Bulgarians, Poles, Czechs were closely bound with older customs of a pagan origin. And the basis of syncretic religion which has arisen spontaneously, were most likely pre-Christian beliefs and ceremonies.

The unity of paganism and Christianity was in consciousness of people not only external, as parallel existence of both principles, but also internal, as their interlacing and interosculation which appreciably assisted likeness of these religions.

By origin it is possible to allocate five major ethno-cultural components which are inherent in world outlook ideas of Ukrainian peoples: Slavic (old Slavonic borrowings of last two centuries), Turkic, Thracian, Semitic-nerian (which conductor were Turks), Eastern-Romanic and Greek. Certainly, for each people some of them were conducting, others were substrate ones.

At the same time, all of them have become some part of the structure of these peoples’ traditional culture testifying not only to long lasting borrowings, but also to the outstanding processes of these ethnoses’ ethnogeny.

The analysis of features of forming the world outlook ideas of peoples which live in Ukraine convincingly shows a system-creative role of Slavic components for the majority of ethnic groups. During last two centuries it has positively affected adaptation of spiritual culture of peoples to the Ukrainian environment which now is the favorable factor for integration of these ethnic groups in the Ukrainian environment. And prospects of dialogue of the other ethnic cultures consist, in our opinion, of reducing political, religious, world outlook distances between existing communities.
